Apple is planning to unleash its new iPad around March 2012. A Japanese site Macotakara reported iPad 3 was soon to come with a new dock connector. It posted pictures of ribbon cables which are considered to be of the 3rd generation iPad. Images suggest the dock has gone smaller in size but features the same 30 pin input and electrical specification. It isn’t however clear if the next generation iPad will have retina display.
The source of images is a parts dealer located Far East and he claims the parts belong to a prototype third generation iPad. This is a design that was first introduced in Apple’s lineup back in April 2003. Macotakara says
,
“New iPad seems to have re-designed dock connector. Dock’s 30-pins and electricity specification will not be changed, but shape will be more smaller than current “iPad dock connector”, which has released April 2003. New Dock connector design will bring compatibility problem with current dock connecting products.”
The last statement means new dock connector will pose compatibility issues with current Apple devices that use 30-pin standard connector, forcing users to likely buy new accessories. Also third-party manufacturers of Apple parts would also be encountered with the problem of making new products.
We have news that a new device is to join the iOS family of iPad, iPod, iPhone and Apple TV.
